Dental Insurance: Acreview Dental

Did you Know?

Your dental plan (insurance benefits) is a contract between yourself, the insurance company and your employer, not the dentist. Dentists are not involved in any way with the Dental Insurance Companies.

Due to the Privacy Act, we cannot contact your insurance company for information on your behalf. As a patient, the payment for treatment fees is completely your responsibility.  We are able to accept assignment (direct pay from your insurance company) once you have chosen one of the options as described on our Financial Policies page (Financial Policies page).

Your dental plan may not cover 100% of your dentistry. Some companies offer 100% coverage of an older fee schedule. Our fees are based on the quality of materials used, the level of technology available and our clinical expertise in delivering excellence in dentistry. Not all treatments are eligible or fully reimbursable.

As a courtesy to our patients, we are happy to help you understand your dental plan.

We offer our patients an estimate of treatment fees to send to your insurance company for confirmation of your dental plan coverage. This will enable you to plan your finances before commencing treatment. Often insurance companies are sending back the estimates with a request for cheaper, alternative treatment plans. We can discuss any alternatives and choices with you prior to treatment.

We encourage our patients to be familiar with their dental plan in order to eliminate disappointments with payment and reimbursement.

Remember, your dental plan is not a treatment plan. All treatment and care decisions should be made based upon your actual needs as diagnosed by your dentist, indepent of your dental plan coverage.

If you have any questions, our team members are qualified to help you.

Insurance Terms You Should Be Aware Of

Annual Maximum
Most insurance companies have an annual maximum amount of coverage for each patient listed under the insurance policy. This coverage may be changed and patients may not be informed.

The dollar amount the patient pays toward their treatment total before insurance coverage begins.

Eligibility determines who is covered under the insurance policy.

Many dental services and treatments that are clinically necessary are not covered by dental insurance. These exclusions are usually described in the patient’s insurance booklet, but be aware that more treatments are being excluded to reduce costs to the insuring company.

“Out of Pocket Portions” are part of the treatment fee not covered by dental insurance. The insurance company will pay a certain percentage of the treatment but they rarely cover 100%.

Dual Coverage
Both spouses are covered by separate insurance plans. The insurance companies usually coordinate the benefits so that the patient does not receive more than 100% of the cost of treatment.

This occurs when a patient signs a section of the insurance form, which allows the dentist to receive payment directly from the insurance company. However, patients are responsible for the “Out of Pocket Portion” at the time of treatment and any treatment that may no longer be a covered expense. Insurance companies now often send payment to the patient. This should be forwarded to the dentist as soon as possible.
