Dental Implants in Courtenay

Dental Implants Near You

A dental implant is a great option to replace missing teeth. Unlike dental bridges, they do not involve crowning the teeth beside the space. They feel quite natural and you can essentially treat them like a normal tooth. Dental implants are aesthetic and difficult to tell apart from natural teeth. They can also be used to support a denture or replace multiple teeth.

Our office has dentists trained in implant dentistry. We offer bone grafting and bone preservation procedures at time of a tooth extraction. We have a CBCT machine that can produce a digital model of a patient’s bone and jaw. This is used to plan the surgery and type of implant ahead of time. We place Straumann and Nobel implants which are heavily researched and have some of the highest success rates among implants.

Once implants are placed and healed, which can take a couple months, we can attach crowns, bridges, or dentures to them to replace missing teeth. Most, if not all of these later steps can be done without freezing and are well tolerated by patients.

Three smaller pieces come together to form one dental implant: the implant screw, abutment, and the prosthetic that sits above the gum line. Titanium is the material used to create the screw and abutment since it’s compatible with the human body; in other words, it won’t cause any tissue irritation or swelling.

Surgical means are used to place the screw and abutment in your mouth; the prosthetic is installed once your jawbone has fused with the screw and been able to properly heal. Porcelain or ceramic is used to fashion the prosthetic, which is often a dental crown, so that it blends in with your other, natural teeth.

Here are some reasons why a dentist near you may recommend acquiring dental implants:

  • They are durable and long-lasting.
  • Enhances oral function,
  • Improves the look of your smile.
  • Preserves damaged, weakened, or stained teeth.
  • Improves your ability to speak and eat.
  • Can hold other dental prosthetics in place such as bridges and dentures.
  • Offers more comfort.
  • You can treat them like your natural teeth.

If you have questions or concerns of any kind, don’t hesitate to talk to your dental team. They’ll be happy to assist you however they can ensure that your experience is as smooth as possible.
